Thermal Shock & Chemical Resistance: Selecting Industrial Surfaces for Battery & Textile Plants

Textile dyeing mills, chemical processing units, and lead-acid battery manufacturing plants present some of the most aggressive working conditions for industrial floors in Pakistan. Facilities must withstand continuous exposure to concentrated acids, alkalis, dyes, and rapid temperature fluctuations from steam cleaning.

When cold water or ambient room temperature floors are suddenly blasted with 100°C+ live steam or hot effluent water, standard tiles crack due to thermal shock. Specially engineered acid-resistant technical tiles overcome thermal and chemical stress simultaneously.

Why Thermal Shock Resistance Matters

Thermal shock occurs when rapid expansion or contraction creates internal tensile stresses within a tile. High-grade industrial tiles prevent thermal failure through:

  • Low Thermal Expansion Coefficient: Minimizes expansion and stress when exposed to boiling liquids or steam sanitization up to 150°C.
  • Complete Vitrification: Non-porous structure (<0.05% absorption) prevents trapped moisture from boiling and cracking the tile from inside.
  • Universal Chemical Resistance (ISO 10545-13): Resists concentrated H₂SO₄ (sulfuric acid used in battery production) and caustic alkalis (NaOH used in textile mercerizing).

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the temperature limit for Marjan industrial tiles?

Marjan technical tiles can safely withstand continuous operating temperatures up to 150°C and sudden thermal shock discharges up to 120°C without cracking or thermal delamination.
